Selena Gomez spoke up about What Happened When She Unfollowed Dua Lipa: ‘It Was an Accident’

It caused a lot of drama online in June when Selena Gomez suddenly unfollowed Zayn Malik, who she had been rumored to be dating at that time. She even unfollowed Zyan Malik’s ex-girlfriend Gigi Hadid, her sister Bella Hadid, Zendaya, and Dua Lipa on Instagram.

Selena revealed in her new interview with Fast Company, that unfollowing Lipa really was not on purpose. She re-followed Lipa and Zendaya and she still follows them.

Regarding unfollowing Dua Lipa specifically said with a laugh, “It was an accident!” “I was just cleaning up some of my Instagram. Then somebody called me and was like, ‘What happened with Dua?!’”

And Gomez went above and beyond to make that publicly clear.

The 31-year-old singer/songwriter, addressed the dispute rumors immediately by sharing a photo of herself wearing a polka-dot and butterfly-print dress from Lipa's Versace capsule collection, captioning it with "A little Versace/Dua moment."

Dua lipa responded positively to the support in the comments, calling Gomez an "angeeeeeeeel!!!!" with heart-eye emojis.

She also talks about her upcoming album in Fast Company’s wide-ranging interview, in addition to how heartbreak influenced her decision to quit Instagram in 2018.

She said, with her new music specifically, happy songs are coming “I love sad-girl music; I’m really good at that,” she acknowledged. “However, I can’t really write that if I’m not sad. I’ve had to relearn what being me and being happy looked like. There is not one sad song on this whole album.”

Still, “I’ve never promised anyone that I’ll never have a bad day again,” she said. “I’ve always been honest with my fans. Even when I take breaks from social media, I’ll say I’m taking a break.

While it's unclear why the she unfollowed Gigi, the two first connected through their mutual friend Taylor Swift.
